I was soooo excited to see the Vicki Boutin Sweet Rush collection as part of the Scrapaholix's July Kits. One of my favourite pattern papers from the collection has been included in the Add-on kit which is great as I am way overdue to make a "boy page" and the Good Vibes pattern paper from the collection is just perfect for what I had in mind.
I started off with the Bazzill White Op cardstock from the Main kit as my background, I stencilled a sunburst using the Tim Holtz Burst Stencil from The Mad Scrapper and Mustard Seed Distress Oxide Ink pad also available from The Mad Scrapper.
I loved the look of the sunburst but wanted to add some texture to it to ensure it stood off the page so I added hand sewing to it. The embroidery thread which is from my stash is lighter than the distress oxide so creates a tone on tone effect but also a little contrast. I find it easier to first poke holes and then to hand sew. I have a pokey tool (not sure if it has a technical name) which I have had for many years which works brilliantly for this.
I then dived into the pattern paper Good Vibes from the Add-on kit where fussy cutting was definitely in order and distressing the edges was absolutely necessary - two of my favourite techniques 😊
I just love the die-cut ephemera from the Sweet Rush Collection, you will receive 10 pieces in the Add-on kit, I had to have more of it, so I picked up a full pack of the Sweet Rush ephemera from The Mad Scrapper.
I fussy cut some of the pieces to make it work on my page. I also added sticky back foam from my stash to the waves and to some of the die cuts to add dimension to the page.
I then played around with the die-cut ephemera until I was happy with the elements and their placements. I needed a little bit more pink to balance out the colours on either side of my page so I used one of the pink die-cut flowers and punched circles out of it, the punch is just my office punch from home. I backed my photos with white tissue paper from my stash. I used the Yellow Simple Stories alpha sticker sheet from the Add-on kit which completely pops off the dark blue wave.
