A new month, a new scrapaholix kit.
I found it hard to narrow down where to go with this kit as it lends itself to many seasons. In the end I decided, for the first layout, I would stick with its very obvious nature theme.
This moody woodland photo was taken by my son when he was first learning about photography but it’s still one of my favourites. The sun coming through the trees is somewhat ethereal looking. And it’s clear that the photo was taken as the trees were beginning to turn for autumn.
There was also a bit of a hessian (burlap) theme so I went with that.
Using a strip of hessian as a back drop, I cut out lots of leaf dies, as well as a little deer, from the coloured card in the kit. I’ve inked the edges with vintage photo ink using a blending tool just so they won’t look so flat and lifeless.
I’ve mounted the photo on a bit of the darker card as it seemed to pick out the dark shades in my photo and I put it on to 3D foam tape. I like to raise the photo so it’s easier to build up the embellishment elements around and under it.
It also made it easier to add my watery paint drips under it too. I tried to pick out the Smokey moody dark colour as well as the green and rust which reflects the end of summer start of autumn look in the photo.
I finished it off with some gentle splatters of light green paint and a little mat and layered word banner. The hessian effect letter stickers tie in really well.
I’ve distressed and inked around the edge of the page.
I’m considering doing the next project as a winter theme as there are lots of fir trees and bark/wood papers in the kit. But then again that dragonfly is also a tempting focus.
Decisions decisions.
