Christmas Time - Mixed media canvas by LORI WOODS

Hello creative friends! I wanted to create a Christmas themed project and found a little toy Christmas tree to use as my starting point. I started by using the Iris Tapestry stencil to create some background texture with Modelling Paste. With Heavy Body Gel I built up a composition around the tree using Finnabair moulds- Large Gears, Machine Parts, Stars and Moons, Grungy Frames, and Numerals, and Finnabair embellishment including Clocks and Pebbles.

Once the gel was dry and everything was securely attached to the canvas, I gave it a quick coat of White Gesso to prime it and then began to add the colour. I started with a background of Linen impasto paint and then used Hazelnut metallique paint to create areas of shadows and Mediterranean impasto paint to create areas of colour on the different elements. I then used the white gesso to dry brush over the surface of the canvas and embellishments to highlight some of the details and give the project a snowy effect.

To finish off I went a little crazy with Glitter and Unicorn Paste to create lots of lovely snowy sparkle! I hope this project inspires you to create your own winter wonderland project full of festive fun :)
