Together by KAREN MOSS
I was recently at a retreat and one of the challenges was to use a Gabarits, which are plastic 12 x 12 templates which are intended to be drawn around and hand cut to produce apertures to back with photos or patterned paper.
I chose this one.
Rather than cut out apertures, I drew it on the back of a piece of cardstock and then pricked between the lines to make a design for sewing.
To be honest, this was one of those times that half way through I thought 'Why did I think this was a good idea' but after persevering with the mammoth sewing task I was delighted with the result.
Once I had the finished sewn piece it needed to have a small cluster of photo and embellishment and a title so as not to cover up all my hard work.
I used a piece of paper from the Tranquility 6 x 8 pad, cut down to 6" wide and 5.25" tall. I then cut around the flower and butterfly, on the paper so that they would overlap my photo.
To embellish around my photo I used Tranquility laser cuts and washi stickers (I have to say that having discovered the rolls of washi stickers, they are now one of my favourite embellishments). I also added some rose gold sprigs which I had also made at the retreat using a Minc foiling machine - another first for me.
To finish I used the 'together' die cut from the pack of Tranquility ephemera and two butterflies from Tranquility laser cuts.
