Celebration Mini Album by KAREN MOSS
Our daughter recently passed (with flying colours) her final GP exam after a total of 10 years from start to finish! I decided to take her to London for the weekend to celebrate in style and we packed in so much over the two days that I wanted to make a little album to give her of our happy memories.
I like making ‘Back to Back’ albums as they are so quick to make and I usually make them out of patterned paper but I have used cards for this one, which makes it sturdier and more likely to last. I chose 5 cards from the Spectrum Sherbet card set ( you could use more but would have to adjust the depth of the spine) and folded them so that the pattern was on the inside and the white was on the outside. Using strong double-sided tape throughout, with the opening of the card on the left, add tape to the white side and add another card on top of this, white side (Back to Back). This will make the first page of your book, continue until you have stuck all five cards and have a book with 4 back to back pages.
Next I took two envelopes and trimmed the two small flaps and one of the long flaps from the envelope and then trim the last long flap where the straight edge finishes and the angles begin approx. 1cm. Keep the pieces you have trimmed off as I used them to make pockets in my album.
Stick the two pieces together, along the 1 cm fold to form the spine and this is the cover of your album.
To finish the construction of your album stick the first page and the last page of your book to the cover, do not glue the spine.
Your mini album is now finished and it’s time for the fun part – decorating and adding photos :0)
Cover
First, I used two butterfly rub-ons, that came with the kit – I have to say that these when on so smoothly, I was really impressed. Then I built up the centre cluster using a tag, frame and ‘Awesome’ tag and butterfly from the Spectrum Sherbet Ephemera bits (Strawberry Lemonade). I also used a tag from the Spectrum Sherbet Tag Set and added the word ‘Celebrate’ from the rub-ons. The final touch was one of the round seals. I stuck this to a scrap of card before trimming to add to my cluster.
Covent Garden
For all my pages I added journaling strips which I typed and printed in a dark grey rather than black.
I used one of the large flaps (trimmed to fit), removed from the envelope, as a pocket and added a flower run-on. My journaling was added to the top of the left page and a cluster made up of a butterfly seal and a tag with a rub-on. I have three photo mounts, each with a photo on both side, one is 5 ¼ x 3 ¾ (cut from a spare card) and two are 3 ¼ x 4 ½ (cut from a large rectangle from the Spectrum Sherbet Ephemera bits - Strawberry Lemonade).
Bridgerton Afternoon Tea
For the pocket I have used one of the large flaps saved from making the book cover and added a rub-on from the ones in the kit.
I added my journaling at the bottom of this page and made a cluster using a frame, tag, circle and butterfly from the Spectrum Sherbet Ephemera bits - Strawberry Lemonade.
Photo mounts are 5 ½ x 3 ¾ one of the spare cards and two are 3 ¼ x 4 ½ also cut from a spare card.
SIX – The Musical
For the pocket I used one of the small flaps and added a seal and a rub-on from the ones in the kit.
I added my journaling strips to the top of the left page and my cluster at the bottom was made up of two centres, from frames, and a phrase from the Spectrum Sherbet Ephemera bits - Strawberry Lemonade. I also added a butterfly rub-on at the top right and bottom left of my cluster.
Photo mounts are 5 ½ x 3 ¾ one of the spare cards and two are 3 ¼ x 4 ½ also cut from a spare card.
The Tower Of London
For the pocket I used one of the large flaps and a rub-on.
My journaling was added to the top of the page with a cluster of two tags, two phrases, a tag and two butterflies Photo mounts from the Spectrum Sherbet Ephemera bits - Strawberry Lemonade. I also added a rub-on butterfly between the two die-cut ones.
Photo mounts are 5 ½ x 3 ¾ one of the spare cards and one 3 ¼ x 4 ½ also cut from a spare card.
The Shard – Peter Pan Afternoon Tea
Again, the pocket is made from a large flap with a rub-on.
Journaling was added at the bottom of the page and the cluster was made of a tag, phrase and two phrases from the Spectrum Sherbet Ephemera bits - Strawberry Lemonade. I also added two rub-on butterflies.
Photo mounts are two 5in x 4in, one 3 ½ x 4 ½
I was thrilled with how this little project turned out and how quickly it came together.
